蛇像所有其他爬行动物一样是冷血动物。虽然被称为冷血动物，但并不意味着它们的血液是真正冷的，它们只是在外界温度变化时无法保持恒定的体温。当它们的体温下降时，它们不会出现hypothermia 而对温血动物确是致命情况，相反，它们的新陈代谢会减慢甚至停止。当环境温度升高时，它们的体温也会升高，新陈代谢率也会恢复，因此它们会再次变得活跃。即使是【爬行动物】(I) croc and gator 鳄生活在水中的爬行动物也需要到岸边晒太阳。这里所有的动物都有晒太阳的灯。当我在那里时，许多动物一动不动，只是在灯光下晒太阳。这条钻石响尾蛇是比较活跃的，看起来很有好奇心。
Snakes like all other reptiles are cold-blooded animals. Though called cold-blooded, it doesn't mean their blood is truly cold, they just can't maintain constant body temperature when outside temperature changes. When their body temperatures drop, they won't suffer hypothermia which is fatal to warm-blooded creatures, instead, their metabolisms slow down or even stop. When the environmental temperatures rise their body temperatures go up and metobolic rate recover so they become active again. Even the reptiles living in water also need to bask on the bank in order to warm up their bodies. All the animals have basking lights in their captivities. Many of them in the zoo were motionless only basking under the lights when I was there. This diamondback rattlesnake is one of the active ones, seems very inquisitive.
