second interview

I have completed my second interview. Do I need to send the "thank you letter" to hiring director again? He attended all my presentations and interviews.

My previous boss/director (he is the well-know leader in the area I am applying for, and he is working as VP in another company now) also told me that he is very happy to be my reference. Do I need to add him as my additional reference? Many thanks!
