-It your old school did not withdraw your H-1 before June, it does not matter whether the contract expired or not. Technically, USCIS cannot cancel the old H-1 in such a short time even if your old school request that. So, you are basically safe.

还有一个小问题呀。Does the H-1B transfer have to be approved before I work? Is it because the H1B transfer was submitted during the grace period?
-You can work for the new employer after the H-1 transfer is filing e.g. get the receipt notice. Not need to wait for the approval.
