（1）如果学校提供的合同是9个月，那么从opt过渡到cap exempt h1b过程中是不是要特别留意h1b开始的时间？如果可以自行选择h1b effective date，那么

---------（1）-a）是否应该选择opt结束日作为h1b生效期，亦即2018.6月正式开始h1b？

-You have the F-1 grace period of 60 days after F-1 OPT expires, so the H-1 effective date can be any date before the grade period ends. You are legal to saty in US during the grace period ot time, but you cannot work during this period of time unless your H-1 is approved and effective.

---------（1）-b）还是应该选择学校公布的新学年9-month faculty contract end date之前开始，亦即2018.5月？

（2）打算今年秋天file h1 petition，明年年中申请护照延期，这样的话，需要向USCIS更新护照号码吗？

-No. USCIS does not care about your passport renewal.

如果需要，是等到h1b approval之后更新，还是拿到新护照之后立刻更新（regardless of application status）？
