尊敬的8老师，
请问一个有关父母绿卡问题。
我的父母几年前拿到绿卡后，一直都是每年回中国5个多月，在美国呆6个多月。
 

去年9月份我父亲因为身体原因回国治病至今没有回美国。他打算明年一月份来美国。这中间离开美国有15个月。他还能持绿卡入境美国吗？

-No. The green card will be void if they stay in China for > one year.

还是他的绿卡会被取消。能有什么方法能继续保住绿卡又能顺利入境美国吗？需要再递交什么申请吗？

-They may just abandon the green card in any one of the US Consulates in Chia and then, apply for B-2 visa to enter US. If they want to get the green card again, you may sponsor them again as you did before.

Of course, if it is actually the serious illness prevents your father to return to US on time, then he can apply for the SB-1 visa in the US Consulate in Guangzhou to enter US to keep his green card, not need to abandon it (not need to apply for B-2 visa in this case).  He needs to provide the very strong evidence of his serious illness for SB-1 visa application if he wants to apply for it.
