-Because your mother's age is too high, you may do what you plan to do. Just try to explain to the IO at the port of entry to let your mother enter US using green card, at least not ask her to return to China directly from there. If the request is rejected, your mother may be given the choice to either appear before an immigration judge to argue that she has not really abandoned her permanent resident status or to voluntarily abandon her permanent resident status. your mother had better just choose to voluntarily abandon her permanent resident status (i.e. green card) at the port of entry, and ask the IO to issue her B2 status to enter US. If she chooses to appear before an immigration judge, she probably will lose the case, thus she may be deported (that will be very serious). Of course, if she is not offered B2 status to enter US, she has to choose to enter US to see the immigration judge. So, negotiate with the IO.
