我h-4 转f-1，要填什么表给uscis?

请问pjiang等大师，学校要我自己做 filling an 'adjustment of status' application with uscis, 没给我任何其他信息，请问我是否该填1-539 表。
我以为学校会为我做所有paper work, 他们也不告诉我要做什么，问了几次才知道要自己申请身份转换，请问在h-4 转f－1 中学校的责任是什么？ 我需要做什么？其中转换过程是怎样的？是否要有从uscis 的receipt 才能填1-20,要多久f-1才能批下来？交多少钱？转f-1 的日期是自己定还是由学校开学日期来定？
