485 pending and lost job

485 was filed in Oct. 2002. Just lost job. It's hard for me to find a new one. If I receive an REF, and can not give them the required document, how long can I legally stay in US? Can I apply for family based PR to keep my legal status if the above scenario happens? Thanks.
