Canadian citizen don't need a visa to enter USA and can stay upto 6 months if you are a tourist. In your situration, you need to clam a F-2 status to be able to legally stay longer, which can be done by asking for a I-20 (with you as the dependent) from school and show it together with financial document at the US border.
