MD Anderson 甲状腺癌专家的孩子从来不照dental X-ray!

几周前， 医院大查房 （ground round）请的speaker是MD Anderson 的甲状腺癌专家。 talk 完了。本院一位资深医师提问要求speaker解释一下dental Xray和甲状腺癌的关系。 speaker脱口而出： “我自己的孩子还从来没有照过dental x ray” 呢。顿时，全场一片寂静。。。事后，同事们说，他们记住的就是这一句话。。。Talk的其他detail都不记得了。

长听人说，dental Xray 的辐射剂量很小， 只相当于从东海岸到西海岸一次飞行的背景辐射剂量。 问题是牙科检查的x光射线是集中照射的，而background 背景辐射是散布在全身的。Critical organ 受到的辐射很小。即便如此，空姐们的 breast cancer和skin cancer 还是比一般人高的。文献如下：

关键是正如American Cancer Society 说的，radiation没有safe dose。所以光照得少一点，防护得好一点，总是有帮助的。这就是所谓的ALARA。

。。。there is no threshold below which this kind of radiation is thought to be totally safe.

ALARA
