You are welcome.
Since you had such strong reaction to statins (the cholesterol lowering medications including zocor (simvastatin)), I would be cautious to try other statins, eventhough pravastatin (pravachol) and lovastatin (mevacor) are not as strong as zocor. As far as other group of cholesterol lowering medication, I do not they have good long term clinical benefit, and most of them are not cheap, niacin probably is a good choic if you have low HDL (the good cholesterol),but it also has muscular side effects.
There is a small clinical study showed that life style modification (low calorie healthy diet, exercise, and weight loss) plus fish oil (12gm/d) and red yeast rice (3.6gm/d) had similar cholesterol lowering effect as 40mg zocor, but red yeast rice contain small amount lovastatin (about 3.5mg per capsule (0.6gm)). I would be very cautious with you situation. Certainly life style modification is probably the safest.
Good luck.
