iPhone 6 CONFIRMED For Sept 9 Reveal... Will We See The iWatch Too?
Apple has started issuing invites to its iPhone 6 launch event on September 9
So those rumours about an Apple even taking place on September 9 have been proven true as Apple as begun issuing press invitations to said shindig. Of course, it hasn’t divulged exactly what’s happening at the event
, but bets are on the iPhone 6, possibly a larger iPhone 6 phablet and maybe even an iWatch.
As well as sitting well with earlier rumours of the launch event, the date matches up with Apple’s launch habits from the last few years. Apple is expected to launch a 4.7in iPhone 6 as the main variant to succeed the iPhone 5/iPhone 5S, while a 5.5in model is believed to be in the wings too, ready to take on the phablet market with an extra-large display.
Both devices will run Apple’s new iOS 8 software build and introduce a raft of new feature. Rumours claim the 4.7in model will ship within a few weeks of the announcement, as early as September 19, but it’s not known whether the phablet might arrive a bit later. Some rumours also say the iWatch will be announced at the same event, though others maintain it will have its own launch later on.
Several of Apple’s new products are pegged to introduce Sapphire Glass displays to provide greater durability. Apple’s invitation simply features the date written as “9.9.2014” and as always there’s a teaser line which this time reads, “wish we could say more.” Previous invitations and teasers have featured plenty of colour, but this latest is very plain and monochrome, being primarily white with some grey gradients.
The iPhone 6 has to be one of Apple’s worst kept secret EVER, having leaked online multiple times during the past six months, and while a lot of these so-called-leaks were dummy units based on rumours or – in some cases – reference designs, they all kind of pointed in a similar direction.
Still… it’s always nice to get something a little more official. And this week, ahead of the BIG Sept 9 reveal, we finally got it courtesy of China Telecom, which “accidentally” posted some upcoming iPhone 6 marketing materials onto China’s version of Twitter, Weibo. The iPhone 6 will be available in a trio of colours – black, silver and champagne – and have slightly more rounded edges. The power/unlock button has also been repositioned and is now located on the side of the handset’s chassis.
The iPhone 6 will ship with Apple’s brand new A8 chipset and potentially 2GB of RAM. There is also talk of a 128GB model, although some reports believe this version will be reserved solely for the iPhone 6’s larger launch partner, an iPhone-phablet device codenamed the iPhone N56.
French site Nowhereelese has a better than average track record when it comes to Apple leaks; the tech-blog successfully outed Apple’s iPhone 5s ahead of launch last year.
