JA Solar advances after report of contract win from Tesla

Shares of Chinese solar energy company JA Solar (JASO) are rallying after a website reported that the company had won a contract from electric carmaker Tesla (TSLA). WHAT'S NEW: JA Solar has won a contract from Tesla to build a charging station in Shanghai, China, Taiwanese website Want China Times reported, citing Shanghai publication China Business News. The charging station is expected to generate a few dozen kilowatts of power, Want China Times stated. WHAT'S NOTABLE: Tesla plans to invest a great deal of money to build "charging infrastructure" in China, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said earlier this week. PRICE ACTION: In early afternoon trading, JA Solar rose more than 5% to $11.41. Other Chinese solar stocks also gained, with Canadian Solar (CSIQ) advancing 5.7% to $30.87, JinkoSolar (JKS) rising 2% to $30.50, China Sunergy (CSUN) advancing 2.5 % to $4.02, and Trina Solar (TSL) adding 3% to $13.17.
