replacing vinyl sheet with vinyl planks, should the original flo

I am replacing vinyl sheet with vinyl planks in the kitchen. Is it a good idea to leave the original flooring there and put the new one on top? Removing the existing vinyl sheet seems to be a big job and really adds to the labor cost. Thanks for any thoughts to share.
