except for the guys in congress committees who have responsibilities dealing with specific matters in this field
There are a few of Committees with those kinds of functions.
If you look for some experts in national security, they need to look in US congress and maybe Universities.
But these 2 places are the least places where President/VP is to be elected.
On McCain/Palin ticket, national security is McCain's job, not Palin's. But like anyone else, she can pick them up if needed as Bush did in his first term.
On the level of knonledge in national security, she may be on the same level as Obama
