STAUNTON, Va. (WVIR) -
Authorities have located remains they believe are of two missing motel owners after questioning a man apprehended in Staunton.
Twenty-seven-year-old Steven Richard Mulkey was arrested Monday, September 24, at the Hometown Inn on Lee Jackson Highway. Investigators say he was a maintenance man at the Siesta Motel owned by 77-year-old Ching Kao and his wife, 76-year-old Siumei.
Two bodies were found in a wooded area of Leeds, Alabama on Tuesday. Irondale Police Chief Ken Atkinson says Mulkey told investigators where to find the couple.
Police went to the couple's motel on Friday, September 21, and couldn't find either the man or the woman. They did discover blood, and both the motel safe and Mulkey were gone.
Mulkey is charged with capital murder, and is currently being held at Middle River Regional Jail without bond.
