"Russian government officials reportedly talked about having possibly "derogatory" information about President Trump and some of his top aides during the 2016 presidential race.
The officials' discussions were intercepted by U.S. intelligence, CNN reported, citing two former intelligence officials and a congressional source.
A source told CNN the information was related to finances. Russians appeared to think "they had the ability to influence the administration through the derogatory information," the source said."

"Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and closest adviser, talked with the Russian ambassador in December about setting up a back channel of communications between Washington and the Kremlin. The goal seems to have been to use Russian diplomatic facilities for these talks before Trump would be sworn in, so any discussions wouldn’t be monitored."

The lawyers who wrote a letter saying President Trump had no significant business ties to Russia work for a law firm that has extensive ties to Russia and received a “Russia Law Firm of the Year” award in 2016. According to the firm’s website, its Moscow office includes more than 40 lawyers and staff who are “well known in the Russian market, and have a deep familiarity with the local legislation, practices, and key players.” The firm boasts of being “particularly adept” at advising clients on “sanction matters."

Reuters reported that former national security adviser Michael Flynn, along with other advisers to Trump, had contact with Russians in at least 18 calls or emails during the last seven months of Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.
Of the 18 undisclosed contacts, six were phone calls between Russia's ambassador to the U.S., Sergey Kislyak, and advisers to Trump, Reuters reported, citing current and former officials.

"Paul Manafort and Carter Page, two advisers of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, are officially in the thick of the Russia investigation. The Washington Post confirmed late Tuesday that the FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor the communications of Page, while the Associated Press reported that payments Manafort has received in the past can be traced back to a “black ledger” that surfaced last year in Ukraine."
"The New York Times had an interesting report over the weekend on Manafort’s successful sales campaign, from himself to the man who would eventually become president.
On Feb. 29, 2016, Mr. Manafort, the former lobbyist and Republican operative who now sits at the nexus of investigations into Russia’s meddling in the presidential election, reached out to Mr. Trump with a slick, carefully calibrated offer that appealed to the candidate’s need for professional guidance, thirst for political payback – and parsimony.
The letters and memos provide a telling glimpse into how Mr. Trump invited an enigmatic international fixer, who is currently under investigation by United States intelligence services, a Senate committee and investigators in Ukraine, to the apex of his campaign with a minimum of vetting. The answer? Through family and friends, handshakes and hyperbole.
Neither Trump nor any one on his team sought out Manafort – the two were not close before the race – and it was the lobbyist who reached out to the campaign, seeking a role."
WASHINGTON (AP) — "Before signing up with Donald Trump, former campaign manager Paul Manafort secretly worked for a Russian billionaire with a plan to "greatly benefit the Putin Government," The Associated Press has learned.
Manafort proposed in a confidential strategy plan as early as June 2005 that he would influence politics, business dealings and news coverage inside the United States, Europe and former Soviet republics to benefit President Vladimir Putin's government, even as U.S.-Russia relations under Republican President George W. Bush grew worse."

A Reuters review found that at least 63 individuals with Russian passports or addresses have bought at least $98.4 million worth of property in seven Trump-branded luxury towers in southern Florida.
MIAMI/MOSCOW – During the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald J. Trump downplayed his business ties with Russia. And since taking office as president, he has been even more emphatic.
“I can tell you, speaking for myself, I own nothing in Russia,” President Trump said at a news conference last month. “I have no loans in Russia. I don’t have any deals in Russia.”
But in the United States, members of the Russian elite have invested in Trump buildings. A Reuters review has found that at least 63 individuals with Russian passports or addresses have bought at least $98.4 million worth of property in seven Trump-branded luxury towers in southern Florida, according to public documents, interviews and corporate records.
