First, as I said earlier, I don't consider the distributions here "representative of the wider Chinese immigrant population." I'm pretty sure most reasonable Chinese people got turned off by the tone in this forum and stayed out. Still, I don't think I'm wrong in estimating the the majority of Chinese immigrants support Trump (some very strongly).
I was indeed surprised to see the prevalent far-right tone on the forum when I stumbled in, but it provided me an opportunity to observe without feeling personal. I have college classmates who were voicing strong Obama hatred and Trump worship in the WeChat (Internet) circle, and it was pretty painful to watch. In my close personal circle, yes, there are a few progressives, but most people are moderate, and some of them are conservatives as well. I totally get it when they voted Trump out of fiscally conservative concerns. This forum provides me a window into a different bubble though and it's been interesting. I do plan to come back periodically to visit just to keep fresh the awareness of an alternative reality out there.
I'm surprised that the resistance to my opinion is not much nastier. Actually, most are very reasonable. Thank you and I will reflect upon your input (and PMs). But there are also irrational put downs. Maybe my post struck a nerve.
I didn't bring up Hillary because I very much understand the source of the hatred towards her among the far right wing group. There is no puzzle there. I don't bother engaging in any discussion with anyone who calls an elected leader of a major party "希婆" because that's too childish and not a way to respectfully discuss politics and policies. Not worth anybody's time.
I'll leave it at that. Good night!
