iPad is good for everyday use: long lasting battery, 9"+ IPS display, solid OS.
Unless of course you are either
- limited by budget
- like to insert SD card or jail break etc.
then you need an Android like Nenux 10 or Nook HD+ etc.
In all, an iPad 2 with lower resolution is great for daily use. Even a iPad 3 with high res yet still long lasting battery and cheaper would do.
iPad original still works today, just you might not be able to run some Apps that requires iOS5+.
ps, using iPad makes you think its battery can last forever!
