I used PhotoRec about 3 weeks ago after my harddrive controller corrupted my hard drive. I had almost everything backed up except for a photoshoot my wife did the day before. I was able to recover almost all of the 300 photos she took in raw format with PhotoRec without having to shell out $$ for the software. The only downside is the 16 hours it took to sort through the 500gb hard drive during recovery.
