My laptop is infected with the spyware.

Everytime when i start my laptop, it is runnig very slow and it seems to take forever and then restart by itself. Yesterday i logged in it showed my computer is infected with the spyware and asked me download some sofeware to kill it, but the computer restarted by itself again before i could do anything.
By the way my laptop's system is Winxp home edition and recently i just installed the Sp2. I did not download anything including movies in my computer. i don't know how this could happen. Please tell me what i can do. i lost my original restarting DVD.Thanks for your help.
