Depending on where in Alabama. Birmingham is in Alabama but does not like in Alabama. The opinion from a single sample N=1 professor in Alabama does not carry much weight.

Here is the point-to-point rebuttal to your claims:

US News Ranking:
Ranking of engineering schools between 129 and 137 is nowhere near "Much Better" as you claimed earlier; needless to say UAB has a weak engineering school but much stronger majors in other areas. UAB is a Tier 3 National University and Akron is a Tier 4 National University. Undergraduate college is not the focus of UAB and that is why its college ranking is not high. But as I mentioned before, it is one of the 88 Research Category I Research Universities in this country. Also, UAB endowment is $331 million vs. Akron's $53 million. I do not know how you can say Akron is a better university. I never claim UAB is a better university than Akron and only said they are different types. Let the facts say themselves.

Cost:
Out of state tuition for Akron is $17,861:

Out of state tuition for UAB is $11,480:

It’s not as you claimed cheaper.

Additional plus: Weather:
Birmingham weather is one of the best areas in the country. Akron's weather is brutal in winter and even hotter than that in Alabama in summer.
