Job Detail:

Responsible for network engineering, detailed design and deployment of Retail Technology System's Network: includes Cisco, Windows Servers, remote access, VSAT, X.25, IGX, and various IP technologies.

Network consists of a primary site in San Ramon and a disaster recovery site in Houston with over 10,000 service stations utilizing Cisco Routers, Cisco and Juniper Firewalls, 3rd party links, and a dial network.

Works with multiple customers within Marketing and outside of Marketing to complete tasks and achieve objectives.

Responsible for following change management, IP compliance, 3rd level on-call support, and network design.

Part of a small network support team responsible for maintaining network components utilized by retail network used to transact credit card sales and transmit other ancillary data.

The network team is part of a larger Card Authorization and Settlement team that manages all technical functions related to credit card operations.

The team is spread between San Ramon California and Houston Texas.

The network analyst position that is being offered is located in San Ramon.

Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy, and maintain the telecommunications infrastructure and components required to support credit card processing and data transfers
• Understand, maintain, and have the capability to initiate disaster recovery (DR) processes for the Card Authorization and Settlement network
• Work closely with business units to understand and anticipate changing network requirements
• Translate business requirements to technical requirements and implementation plans
• Manage network related software and hardware upgrades
• Troubleshoot network servers, Cisco routers, Cisco firewalls, Cisco switches and hubs
• Communicate with Card Authorization and Settlement Network team in timely and effective manor ensuring team is consulted on design decisions, support documentation is created and in place, and change management procedures are followed
• Meet customer expectations and be flexible with changing priorities
• Explain technical issues clearly to customers, help them understand the technology options and provide training
• Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing
• Participate in Point of Sale (POS) software certification by verifying POS is compliant with the Retail Systems Network
• As part of an on-call rotation team, provide third level 24x7 on-call support for network related issues
• Ensure workgroup alignment with Card Authorization and Settlement Network Team business and strategic plans: Communicates plans, involves work group, managers, and customers in achieving objectives

• Some HP (Tandem) Non-Stop operations support (5%)
• Periodic domestically travel to Houston, Texas

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years related experience

• Demonstrated knowledge of data networking and telecommunication technologies applicable to Oil & Gas businesses in the design of data networks and VSAT technologies including: routing layers/protocols, TCP/IP, subnets, Cisco, X.25, IGX, asynch/bisynch, ATM, performance monitoring, VPN, Firewalls technologies, etc.

• Demonstrated understanding of emerging telecommunication technology trends and application to Oil & Gas businesses. Juniper experience is a plus.

• Ability to design, deploy, and troubleshoot customer applications (serial X.25, bi-sync, async, TCP/IP) over VSAT networks

• Knowledge related to data networks including: switching, routing layers/protocols, IP addressing, subnets, QoS, monitoring, VPN, firewalls, wireless network technologies, network application acceleration (i.e. Steelhead) etc.

• Vendor/Partner management:
Skills in working with internal and external 3rd party providers - ensuring a safety culture, managing agreements, and resolving issues.

• Strong grammar, punctuation, writing, and proofreading skills. Can write clear, concise documentation. Ability to express ideas effectively in writing and can make effective oral presentations.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal and external third party technical support groups and sales representatives

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science

• Windows Technology - Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system and services including Terminal Server, FTP and Active Directory
• Retail service station knowledge: Knowledge or experience in petroleum marketing and convenience store industry. Knowledge of POS, back-office and related retail systems

Position Overview:

The PL/SQL developer will be involved in a variety of IT projects and support within the Operations Marketing Sales team, with a focus on Oracle-based systems.

This PL/SQL developer will be responsible for requirements understanding and documenting business rules and requirements, data flow diagramming, database creation and configuration, and development of stored procedures.

Candidate should be proficient in database and query tuning, and follow processes for reviewing code for quality prior to release.

The position will work closely with the Operation Data Modeler to create, maintain and tune databases.

Provide guidance and mentoring to offshore PL/SQL developer.

Collaborates closely with business analysts and development team.

Applies Information Protection standards and ensures reliability and DR.

Provides sustaining support for Functional Areas that are supported by Marketing Sales team.

Responsibilities for this position:

• Involvement in the IT projects in Operations Marketing Sales as a PL/SQL developer.
• Keeps abreast of IP and CIRS standards with a focus on reliability.
• Data Modeling, database creation and configuration, creation of indexes.
• Responsible to monitor database performance, and manage database and query tuning.
• Develop and maintain application stored procedures and Unix shell scripts.
• SQL coding, including use of sub-queries, inner and outer joins, and Oracle built-in functions. Many of our production support tickets involve reading the SQL queries built into the Java script. This queries are lengthy with lots of joined tables.
• PL/SQL coding. In particular, must understand the language well enough to read code written by other people and trace it through to resolve problems.
• SQL tuning. Data Modeler will be available to help with tuning, but the developer should have a basic understanding of tuning concepts, including effective use of indexes, reading an Oracle optimization plan, and structuring a query for better performance
• Handles integration and interfaces with other systems including SAP.
• Mentor junior and offshore developers –shares ideas, skill and knowledge with others.
• Business acumen. Remedy tickets often come in with vague requests. The developer must understand the business in order to address the customer’s need.

Required Qualifications:
• Must be proficient with Oracle 10G on Unix
• Must be proficient with Unix environment and data interface methodologies (EX SECUREFTP, CONNECTDIRECT, CRON SCHEDULING)
• Adhoc queries and reports
• Resolve Production support tickets related to interfaces issues. Root cause analysis and resolution
• Quickly understand data relationships and learn the business use of the data.
• Proficient with Oracle batch scheduler
• Data modeling using Erwin tool
• Remedy
• Copying data between schemas. Must be proficient in the use of Dblinks and import/export tools.
• Experience with Data Modeling tools.
• Oracle experience, including database creation and configuration, and development of stored procedures and Unix shell scripts.
• Knowledge of Downstream business functions and systems including pricing, incentives and Business Point.
• Understanding of information sources and data flows including SAP.

NOTE: Position works closely with an external partner where most of the following services are outsourced to a lower-cost geography: Technical specifications, coding, unit testing. Prior experience working with a third-party developer is preferred.
