最近的学习体会,日常工作的交流中如果做到professional

以前我谈过关于Bamboo ceiling读书体会, 最近刚学到一个具体实用的技巧,如何克服文化差异带给我们的交流中的误会或弱势效应.

如Bamboo ceiling书中所讲, 西方崇尚个人主义,尊崇个人贡献. 而东方人讲究合作,集体主义.而在平时工作交流中, 他们又喜欢用polish的语言来交流, 以前有网友谈过, 但我忘了是什么词了. 这让我们国人觉得他们很虚伪, 为什么不有话直说呢. 我在我这学期修的课里找到了依据. 原来他们在上学就就教过要create a professional persona:
1. Cooperativeness. Make clear that your goal is to solve a problem, not advance your own interests.
2. Moderation: Be moderate in your judgments. The problem you are describing will not likely spell doom for your organization, and the solution you propose will not solve all the company's problems.
3. Fair-mindedness. Acknowledge the strengths of opposing points of view, even as you offer counterarguments.
4. Modesty. If you fail to acknowledge that you don't know everything, someone else will be sure to volunteer that insight.

交流时如果能做到以上四点, 我们的being professional就基本做到了.但以上几点看着和我们的东方观念好象不矛盾,好象他们也很重视合作精神呀. 但实施起来有它的语言文字上的技巧, 这就完全反应了西方的个人主义精神. 下面技巧就是如何在文字上如何体现西方的个人主义.

在工作场合中, 不论是开会还是写邮件, 在有credit的情况下, 要用"我",'I'这个词, 避免用we, our group, etc. 譬如, 要说, I think, my opinion on this issue, etc..., 如何体现上面四点呢? 可以说, I may not cover everything about this issue, but from my understanding...blah blah...Or, Bill has a good point from xxx aspect, but I think from customer's perspective, blah blah....

我在工作中,有时会习惯性地用了we think it is more appropriate to blah blah...而不是说 I think it is more appropriate to blah blah...这也是我的东方的团队精神的理念, 但会让西方人认为你个人没什么本事, 只是个传声筒而已,或你不能承担责任等非常负面的影响, 影响你在工作中的升职等. 这个毛病可能只是我个人才有, 但当我体会到这点, 不禁汗然. 西方就是, if you want it, come and get it. 这和西方侵略史也有关系吧.

当然,如果是讲述工作失误的情况时, 是否要另当别论了,目前还没有如何处理这方面的体会.
