I would like to hear your sincere input about one situation at work:
My boss (A) is new to the company for 6 months. But she worked for this company more than 10 years ago. She is very close to our current VP due to past relationship. I am just taking over one new state, transition from one of my teammate (B) since my boss takes over additional responsibility. In general, I have good impression about my boss. B sends an e-mail to A to talk about one possible project due to contract change ECT... Since I will the person handling this state, my boss would like me to get all the needed information from someone. I summarized the next step for needed information and send e-mail to my boss and copy B in order to make sure I didn’t misunderstanding anything and make sure I include all important items that we are not sure. I asked “if she would like to handle it differently and let me know if I missed any important items”. My boss replied to both of us, saying “rather than me telling what I think is true about this stuff, just go ahead and ask.” Her reply let me feel that she thought that I am not doing my job. In the past 6 months, I had the same confusion: I thought I am communicating something for good wills, but it seems that she is annoyed or unhappy. So I am thinking of communicating with her to understand what stuff my boss would like to review and what stuff my boss would like to be notified (copied in the e-mail).
Please advice if it is worth communicating. What’s the best way to talk: by e-mail or by phone. What I need to put in mind when I communicate with her about her expectation? Or maybe you can contribute some sentences to draft the e-mail.
Thanks.
