This pattern extends to the aggregate of the twenty-five states whose lists are available, with Asians constituting 5 percent of the to- tal population but almost 28 percent of semifinalists. Extrapolating these state results to the national total, we would expect 25–30 percent of America’s highest scoring high school seniors to be of Asian origin.32 This figure is far above the current Asian enrollment at Harvard or the rest of the Ivy League.
