Beijing’s Airpocalypse Is A Man-Made Disaster

 

"While the smog is impressive, it was only considered an orange alert by Chinese authorities, as explains Singaporean daily the Straits Times. According to Chas Pope, author of the video, the quality of the air was of 400 (AQI 400+), one of the worst possible results in the measurement used by Chinese authorities. The air had about 500 microgrammes per metre cube (µg/m3) of concentrated thin particles, even though the World Health Organisation considers anything above 25 µg/m3 to be dangerous. Chas Pope’s tweet has been shared 1,600 times, liked 1,300 times and relayed by big international media like the New York Times or CNN. However, he was not allowed to share it on Weibo, China’s biggest social media with 500 million users: it seems the smog is censored in China."
