In the business world, you are judged by the perception, not by your intention.  You succeed when the two meet.  

You can use this role to deal with people; usually it means you are a very considerate person. However I think there is a limit on how far you want to go in that direction.  Since you can’t please everyone, there is no point to get approval from everyone.  At some point, it is you who decide what kind of person you want to be.

I think this is particularly critical for new immigrants.  If you want to be happy and succeed in your new life, then declare your rights. You are a rightful citizen of your newly adopted country; no one can deny you anything that comes with it.

There are people that choose to be an outsider. If that is their mindset, there is no much other can help.
