It makes the sport a lot less interesting - no more long term hard-competing heated rivals.
It used to be important to win as the alpha dog, or lose as the alpha dog, if you are a super star. You are supposed to get all the glory or blame. Holding someone else's joystick is only something people would consider very late in their careers, aka Mailman and Glove, but I never liked them anyways:)
Time changes, kids change, jumping on the bandwagons is ok, but the whole drama around this, to make it like some ground-breaking sports world event is garbage.
