在美国访问的冈比亚总统叶海亚-贾梅与布什会谈中表示，一旦台海局势发生变化，冈比亚将出兵中国攻击中国沿海经济区，以防止台海局势扩大化。

冈比亚国民军创建于1984年2月，2001年总兵力约800人。其中海军成立于1996年7月，原名国民卫队，1997年7月更为现名，共70人，2艘炮艇。警察部队成立于1992年2月，包括警察和国家宪兵，现有1000余人。

冈比亚共有67万合法选民，选民把玻璃球投进圆桶钢箱时，玻璃球会撞击小钟发出响声。总统大选有3人角逐，分别以黄、绿、灰三色圆桶、配上候选人相片以作识别。

选民在投票站核对身份及做手指模，再领取一枚玻璃球，把它投进圆桶。每投1票，监票员就会听到1次铃声，这样就可以防止投票人进行选举舞弊。

因铃声类似自行车铃声，因此投票站周围禁止自行车经过，以免混淆。
