If you are not适合干研究工作, don't waste your time.

俺不太爱说话（性格绝不内向) is not good anywhere. You can start with some small talks about kids, TV, etc.. Later when you feel more comfortable with your colleagues, you can talk a little bit more. Not big deal really if you don't set your expectations high.
