Your kids are still young. There is no point to push yourself to much. For want? Do what you want. I also stay home for while when may kids were young. It is not that hard to pick it up. I change my career after 30. I am doing fine now. I may want to change my career again (if company want to pay for me. I think I don't want spend too much my money for another degree). Age should not stop you to do what you want. But when kids are young, you may not have enough time for yourself. Then just wait for several your. After kids go to school, you will find you have more time to study and catch up. In USA, you have to wait untill 67 to retire. There are long way to go. 30s is very young.
