The plan isn't ground-breaking invention, but you need certain players to execute that plan. Rockets don't have that tall, strong PG who can post people up. If they got Jalen Rose instead of Bonzi Wells, it would be totally different story. If Wells can get his act together and get into even semi-game-shape, it would be totally different. As hot as Suns were in the first quarter, they eventually cooled down. NBA is always about runs. 22 points difference at half wasn't the problem, Rockets caught up in the 3rd and went ahead. The problem was not in defense, but rather in offense. Yao was tired from back to back, and failed to get good positions, but other Rockets bricked too much. That was a not so difficult game to take, if they could have made a couple of open shots. 39 3 pointers are too many, but most of them were open ones.

Game plan was wrong? The genius PJ won 3 rings with that game plan to have Shaq and KB draw double teams, and role players knock down open shots. The difference? Horry, Fisher, George, Fox, Shawn, Harper, anyone on the Lakers team, not named KB or Shaq, can knock down open 3s, and play hard-nosed defense. Moreover, they knocked down BIG shots down the stretch. On the other hand, Rockets doesn't have that luxury. Yao Ming doesn't have that luxury.

Basketball isn't rocket science, to claim having some secret plan nobody ever seen or ever tried in the long NBA history, is simply ignorant and ridiculous.

Somebody mentioned international ball, but I am not sure whether you know the pure international zone defense is NOT allowed in NBA. You are not allowed to use a full zone whole game. Zone defense is ideal for slow-footed Yao Ming, but it's inefficient or even disastrous against good 3 pointer shooting teams. To make things even worse, NBA 3 pointer circle is bigger than the international one, which explores zone defense even more.

As bad as Rockets matching up against the Suns, they were 2-2 aginst Phoenix 2 years ago, when Yao was nowhere near his form in this year, when Amare was way better than now after the surgery. But the difference was, at the time, Sura, Wesley and Barry could knock down some open shots. I am not worried about the Suns at all, this year. If Head continues his development, if Rockets are just remotely close to their shooting average, Suns is not going to be major hurdle, but a healthy Spurs and Mavs are.
