Anyone who live in a communist country knows for sure that a communist country N.Korea live by lies. Regardless of what US might offer, N. Korea will make the bomb anyway. If US talks to them and offer benefits to them in exchange of riding nuclear bomb, why should they rid the bomb which is only leverage to blackmail US and West? As far as I have read from the news in the past 10 year about North Korea and US relationship, what they want from US is a guarantee that 1) US not attack North Korea and 2) the deal must not include South Korea. North Korea reason such a deal is possible because of the guarantee made to Cuba by US after Cuba missile crisis.
If such a guarantee is offered, N. Korea will have free hands to do whatever they want. Any agreement can only bind west country like US. It would never bind N. Korea. They are basically thugs.
In dealing with N. Korea, if you do not want to use force, squeeze them as hard as possible. Never talk to them. There is no point in doing so. They are not trushworthy at all.
I like to see US starting as strong sanction as possible and made it clear to Asia that US will deploy long range missile (offensive and defensive) to Japan and South Korea.
