EM wave can induce electric current on any conductor. Due to the resistence, the heat will be generated and the heat will cause damage on the device. The intensity of electric current is propotional to the amount of EM wave occured. For non conductor such as wood and plastic stuff, they will not get affected at all. If you put a metal sheet around the important device, the sheet can protect the device from being induced current.
