Sarting high or low now seems doesn't mean too much to you because you don't have a direct point to cut into the market yet. For example, if you got a degree in US you'll expect to find a job in the field you studied and get paid accordingly based on your experience and education.
Fr some fields, they are willing to accept foreign degree holders but maybe not for you at this moment. So, you might want to plan a long shot, at least better than no idea at all.
1) If you have kids, volunteer to coordinate some events at your kids' school from small ones to big ones. This is the first step of networking and let people know you, athough you won't get any pay. When time is right, you can just let people know you are looking for a job in a similar merit. Once you have done well, people trust you enough you'll get some help. Again, it's not gauranteed. But it's a good practice and you can put it in your resume, too.
2) Volunteer in a church or some organizations(maybe non-profit) as an event coordinator. Similarly, for networking and get experience in living in US.
This is a long shot, the idea is to get a tie with the society first. You won't feel there is a gap there when you go for an interview for both of you and the employer. Hope these will help.
