I don't want to discourage you, but the way you plan to go will most likely get you more and more isolated from other people. After a few years, you will be forgotten, like missing the train and watching it going further and further away. In any discipline, to survive one has to vigorously participate the community activities, to make yourself seen and heard. In some sense this is more important than publishing a few good papers and doing some real science. In HEP, it is likely to be more so (shall we call it a Mafia?). If you are not a friend of the friends, you are an outsider.

All said, it is not impossible but the handling of personal relationship (both in China and abroad) will be rather demanding. Please be sure that you are up to that. If you have a few good ideas that you can pull off in 2 years at least you will not have to fight that hard in China.
