My advice is to find somewhere far from the city but close to subway (say within 1km from any terminal--you got some exercise walking each day) for daily commuting, but also have a car for family needs. Don't contemplate driving in the downtown area everyday. For each hour you spend in a traffic jam, you pay 5 hours with your life expectancy.
