Ideology has nothing to with economy. It provides comfortable and trust between countries. Why do you think Britan and other west countris have visa-waive with US? Economic competition exists all the all. It is totally different thing. Of course US help Russia but as much as you expect. But US feel much safer now for Russia changed its ideology. They are not enemies any more. If China shares the same ideology as US's, both countries would be friends and would solve their problems in different ways.
By the way, what do you mean by "help" as far as international relation are concerned ? If you mean the "help" not requiring payback, US did not lot more to China than another way around. Commerical relation between two nations is just like deal out of which each party get something to his satisfaction. On this aspect, US is the most creditable partner or the US dollar won't be so dominant today.
