No matter how you spin it, sending infantry and tanks to kill own citizen, is not something should have happened in civilized modern world.
It had nothing to do with how high of a moral standard students/intellectuals might have possessed, but it had everything to do with how LOW that government went.
Whether it had happened before in other countries (what happened in US was different, and even more different in aftermath, if you cared to learn about history), is NO EXCUSE for shooting at own citizen.
No matter how poor of communitcation skills you might have, your employer has NO RIGHT to send security guards to abuse you and violate you.
